Chew Valley FC has made great progress since its formation under Dave Hedges in 1997. Over the past eight years, the club has established itself as one of the most successful junior clubs in Somerset. In this time we have seen continuous development of new coaches, new teams and many new players from the Valley and surrounding areas of South Bristol.

In June 2004 we were awarded FA Standard Charter status. This prestigious award from the Football Association reflects the excellent standards of coaching and care that our club provides.

“This FA charter standard award provides your club with recognition for the quality provision you provide your members.”

As a club we offer football coaching under FA guidelines and in a safe environment. Over 175 boys now attend the weekly coaching sessions. With an emphasis on fun and enjoyment, the children are able to learn new skills and experience success. Football provides opportunities for the development of social skills, greater self-confidence and a positive attitude to physical activity and health.

Two coaches Dave Hedges and Ian Rossiter are holders of the ‘UEFA B’ coaching licence and coach at Bristol City Academy. Another coach Ian Lewis holds the FA coaching certificate and all managers have obtained either the FA Junior Team Managers or FA level 1 coaching certificate and have first aid qualifications.

The club take great interest in the safety and welfare of members at the club and we have a Child Protection Officer, Ian Rossiter. All managers complete a

self – declaration and have CRB disclosure.

With an aim for quality and excellence, we take great pride in helping our player's progress to as high a standard as possible. Seen as a Development Centre for the Bristol City Academy, we now have around ten players who are signed at the Academy.  We also have one that is signed on with Bristol Rovers.

We hold a special relationship with one of Europe’s top clubs – Fenerbahçe through it’s Football Manager Volkan Balli.  They have supported us on many occasions, allowing team managers to spend time at training and games with the team. We are proud to be associated with Fenerbahçe and wear the colours (blue and yellow) and badge of this great club with immense pride.

During 2004, club coaches Dave Hedges and Ian Rossiter helped Fenerbahçe with their preparation for the Champions League games with Manchester United. They helped with opposition reports, by accompanying manager Christoph Daum on a visit to Old Trafford and they also joined the team for both games in Manchester and Istanbul.

We continue to work in partnership with Chew Valley School. All of the children have benefited from the astro-turf facility funded by the sports development project at the school.  We played an important role in attracting the funding. Within the community, the mini soccer schools for children as young as four have continued. The sessions offer a fun introduction to ball and co-ordination skills for children aged 4-7.

We thank all the sponsors shown on the team pages for their continued support. Special thanks to Dave Stevenson of Club Sponsors Manor Mortgages who have provided great financial support to the club and the coaches on a regular basis.

As can be seen we continue to make excellent progress and all at the club look forward to further enjoyment and success in football. If you feel that you would like to get involved with any of our initiatives or you can help the club in any way please contact the Secretary or any Team Manager.
