Chew Valley FC has just completed its best ever season in the Midsomer Norton Youth Football League. The teams from age U9's to U16's have won a total of 12 league and cup trophies making us the most successful club in the league.

Both the U11's and Under 12's completed a remarkable treble – winning the league, the KO Cup and the League Cup. “This amazing feat is the first time that it has been done at the club” commentedClub CoachIan Rossiter.

It is great to see all age groups within the club, enjoying success of some kind. We now have around 12 FA-qualified coaches providing top-level coaching. As can be seen, the boys can develop their football and enjoy success along the way.

Off the field, the major achievement has been receiving recognition from the Football Association with the award of FA Charter Standard for our club. All clubs have to meet certain criteria to receive this award, such things as FA qualified coaches, well run safe environments, adherence to code of conduct and other best practice.

There are only 13 other junior clubs in the South-West with this accreditation. One benefit is that we get invited to FA development days. Five of our club coaches recently attended such an event run by the Kevin Hodges , Football Development Officer of the Somerset FA.

“When taking your child to a club, look for the

FA Charter Standard.”

England Captain and Real Madrid

Over the past year our club has continued to develop our partnership with Chew Valley School . The sports development project, which we played an important role in helping to secure the funding, is now complete. The children have all benefited from using the new astro-turf pitch, especially under the floodlights during the winter months.

Within the community, the mini soccer schools for children as young as four have continued. The sessions offer a fun introduction to ball and co-ordination skills for children aged 4-7.

Looking longer term, Chew Valley FC are making plans to enter a team into men's football in the near future. In time, the youth players from the club will filter into this team as they move up to senior football.

Also, this year, Dave Hedges took Club Sponsor Dave Stevenson and his son Michael to visit the Fenerbahçe club in Istanbul . Host Volkan Balli , arranged a game for Michael and Lee Hedges to play in and they also watched Fenerbahçe play an important

league match.

More recently, club coaches Dave Hedges and Ian Rossiter have been helping with Fenerbahçe preparation for the Champions League. They have watched Manchester United play against Blackburn, Everton and Bolton providing opposition reports. For the Everton game at Old Trafford our coaches were joined by manager of Fenerbahçe Christoph Daum.

At Bolton, Jay Jay Okocha spent time after the match with our coaches. Jay Jay is an ex-Fenerbahçe player. During this time, Dave and Ian have also met Berti Vogts, Bobby Charlton and Blackburn player  Tugay. Hopefully our hard work will pay-off and help Fenerbahçe to success in the Champions League.

We thank all parents and all the sponsors shown on the team pages for their continued support. Special thanks to Dave Stevenson of Manor Mortgages who has provided great financial support to the club and the coaches on a regular basis.

As can be seen we continue to make excellent progress and all at the club look forward to further enjoyment and success in football. If you feel that you would like to get involved with any of our initiatives or you can help the club in any way please contact the Secretary or any Team Manager.
